The world’s most recognised gardening event, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, showcased our leading Lazy Supreme artificial grass for the first time in 2009. This is the first time a synthetic lawn has been on display at the show, and in true LazyLawn style, there were no compromises on the finish and quality of the area our design and installation teams created.
The magnificent hornbeam trees framed a wonderful outdoor space and the bespoke-cut limestone led visitors through to an information area that contained cutting-edge furniture, picking up on the straight lines in the garden to create a contemporary look.
The box hedges and enclosed bespoke stainless steel water feature were encompassed in an artificial walled area which proved to be highly popular with visitors marvelling in the product’s softness and realism.
This is the brand’s first appearance at the event, and after a big effort from all the team, as well as being the first ever artificial grass brand to be invited to exhibit at the event, LazyLawn are also the first to have earned an award that is only given to a handful of display sites!
The site incorporated a raised hardwood deck area with low-level seating and a table upon artificial turf that was recessed into the decking. Fourteen synthetic grass balls enclosed this space, along with a 5ft Lazy Supreme wall to frame the beautiful light-coloured statue, creating a fantastic backdrop. Two delicate flat hornbeams were installed above either side of the 'grass' wall to complete the area.
Thousands of people visited the site during the week-long event and the comments and reactions to the area were extremely positive. The Certificate Of Merit Award topped off a wonderful show.
Lazy Grass has featured in the Big Brother garden for the past 2 non-celebrity series. Lazy Grass was recommended as it is natural looking, very durable, highly practical and has a good fire rating, so it met with Health & Safety standards.
The contemporary designs of the past couple of BB gardens has shown how an artificial lawn can look extremely effective in this setting, hence why garden designers around the UK are now incorporating LazyLawn into more and more of their designs and concepts.
Dame Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, had several areas in her garden and courtyard replaced with LazyLawn.
"I’ve spent hours with my grandkids and friends climbing on to our flat roof to admire our newly laid LazyLawn. It was the best decision I’ve made in a very long time to fill all the bald gaps in our garden with LazyLawn and it’s made my entrance and paths look amazing! Long may you reign! I must also add that your customer service is the best I’ve ever received from a UK company!" Dame Anita Roddick
Our team also made the most of a roof area for Anita and her family to enjoy. Before, the roof was unsightly, but had obvious potential, boasting great views and lots of space. We transformed the area into a lush-looking grassy area that can now be utilised for relaxing, reading, eating and even sunbathing!
We also replaced bits of tired-looking grass on Anita’s patio. These small awkward areas were a chore to maintain and LazyLawn revitalised the area, whilst providing a maintenance-free solution.
The last area we replaced was around an old swimming pool that has been filled in. Again, the areas replaced were difficult to maintain and our products brightened up the area to make it more visually pleasing.
LazyLawn installed Lazy Grass (now discontinued) at this stunning property in the London area. The sleepers around the planting beds and the funky stripes in the artificial lawn really gave this project a wow factor. The stripes are created using specialist machinery by our professionally trained installation network, and using the sand infill to influence pile direction, these superb lines were created in the grass. If you wish to have stripes in your lawn, this can still be achieved with our more modern products by alternating the direction of the pieces at 1m widths for example. Please enquire with your installer, but bear in mind that this would be a permanent look.
LazyLawn installed Lazy Grass at the Big Brother house for the 2007 series. This is the third time that we have supplied synthetic turf for the Channel 4 show. Lazy Grass and Grass Park Junior (around hot tub and patio area), were also installed for Celebrity Big Brother last year, and for use in the secret garden in 2006.
This product was chosen as the ideal product because it is highly realistic-looking, clean, safe, soft, and provides a high fire rating when sand filled. It is fully UV stabilised and very durable so can withstand all the housemates’ antics!
The natural turf installed at the Big Brother house the previous year simply couldn’t cope with the hot sun, lack of watering, and housemates’ fun and games, so LazyLawn were contacted to provide the solution.
We also added the funky stripe effect, which looks highly effective alongside all the cutting-edge garden furniture in the Big Brother house.
For this project at London Heathrow Airport, LazyLawn designed and installed a custom putting green on the roof of a 6-floor international hotel. Roofing contractors moved a series of roof ducts and soil pipes to new locations before installing a raised deck to clear the remainder of the ducts and roof structure, allowing for the hole cups to be sunk into the required positions.
200sqm of the professional nylon putting green surface and 150sqm of Lazy Grass were lifted by crane, along with 3 tonnes of sand and 2 tonnes of recycled rubber to the roof area.
We designed a cutting-edge green with rubber undulations placed beneath to make it a more challenging putting experience. The Lazy Grass fringe was installed to provide chipping areas around the green.
The result is fantastic and offers panoramic views of one of the worlds best airports
Above are pictures of a recent professional quality artificial putting green installation in a domestic rear garden, using the premium surface LazyLawn Nylon Pro and the superior Lazy Summer range as the chipping area.
The area was completed with 5 hole cups and flags to the customer’s specification, resulting in a fantastic practise space. The installation team added curves and shape with the lush Lazy Summer fringe area.
The area was fully sand-dressed using specialist machinery to provide a durable and long-term area to cope with the activity that will take place on the area over the forthcoming years. For more advantages of sand filling please see our artificial intelligence page.
LazyLawn supplied and installed artificial grass at Canary Wharf, London. The team went in to replace damaged high-traffic areas that had become tired and worn. The installation was completed in a day and included the removal and disposal of the old turf.
The areas were difficult to maintain and mow because of the amount of people walking past the areas, which, along with surfaces becoming slippery when wet, created issues with health and safety. With an artificial lawn, however, health and safety issues are reduced because there is no need to mow, and areas are not as slippery when wet. What’s more, our products are low-maintenance as do not require watering or treatment, and will remain lush and green all year round. It is also fully UV-stabilised so will remain natural-looking and will not fade.
Phase 2 (2007)
The team went installed artificial turf in London in the West Ferry Circus area to replace areas of grass which were difficult to maintain due to traffic and poor access for mowers.
The natural grass areas required watering during the summer months to maintain the natural green look, but with current water shortages, this was no longer an option. A LazyLawn was the obvious solution and the results are outstanding.
7000 sqm of LazyLawn artificial grass was used around the Bahrain F1 Race Track. 2000sqm of Grass Park was made specially to match the colour of the sand around the track. The materials had to be pre-cut into 2m x 4m sections with a tolerance of +/- 5mm, and included over 10 tonnes of adhesive! The products were shipped by air and sea freight, in time for installation to take place before the Formula 1 race.
Due to problems the previous year with sand blowing onto the track, and more importantly, into the cars, the decision was made to replace some of the sand in the most problematic areas with sand and olive-coloured artificial grass. The sand was removed and the area was tarmaced and concreted, and the grass was bonded down to ensure it would not tear or damage any cars.
"It is what we want. It is better than grass or gravel. This is at least pretty consistent, flat, you can control the car. It’s the best solution we have found. We are happy to listen to any further good suggestions you may have but we haven’t found anything better." Michael Schumacher
The Grass Park Senior artificial surface has also been used at the Hockenheimring F1 Rack Track.
For this 300sqm installation in Leicestershire, LazyLawn were called in to completely overhaul the area adding shaped boarders and a pathway at the rear of the garden. The area had been turned into a mud bath by the customer's playful dog. This dog was bringing mud into the house and the boggy lawn was causing problems for the elderly customer in accessing the shed at the top of the garden.
LazyLawn installed Lazy Grass, as it was one of the most natural-looking materials available at the time. We introduced character and shape by adding key features like exposed tree roots, which made it look much more realistic with this added attention to detail. The team completed the look with our unique striping technique.
This project took place in summer 2009 and used our modern FUNKY range. It was a huge bespoke project and the main area used green LazyLawn grass with its famous mossy thatch effect.
All materials used were super soft, high density, and extremely lush, making it safe and ideal for the young children. The area was fully sand-dressed using specialist machinery, which provides additional benefits for the safety of the kids and the longevity of the play area.
The installation team created our trademark 'splash' effects around the seating and pond areas to the client’s specifications. The colours chosen were the Funky Zingy Lime, Purple Dream and Blue. We think you'll agree that the finished result was fantastic.
