Nottingham Forest forward Marcus Tudgay says his new artificial lawn, has to be the best purchase he ever made, and enjoys teaching his children new football skills on it.
“I call it the Little Man’s Wembley,” says Marcus, 31, “because he and I are out there practicing on it every evening – hopefully one day he’ll be as good as me.”
The football star had 155 square metres of turf installed in the garden of his Derbyshire home during March this year, after introducing a puppy to the family, the puppy and natural lawn did not see why to eye and it was a constant battle to stop the puppy from transforming the garden into resembling a ploughed field!
“The dog was always out there digging holes in the garden and then coming and treading mud everywhere in the house,” explains the footballer, “but obviously that’s no longer a problem as the new lawn has no mud, so it’s a lot cleaner.”
“Not only that, I don’t need to spend time cutting the grass anymore. I used to have a posh lawn mower, and I enjoyed using it, but I won’t be going back as the new lawn is so much easier.”
Marcus, who lives with his fiancée and their three children, describes himself as a “very, very happy customer,” and was especially impressed by the installation of the lawn by the LazyLawn licensee for Derbyshire, Haydn Ford.
“Haydn gave me a time scale of two and a half days to install the new lawn, and he smashed it! It looks perfect and fits well with the rest of the garden, it’s the best thing I ever bought.”
Marcus is so taken with his new artificial lawn that he has been recommending it to neighbours, friends, and even other professional footballers.
“A couple of the lads at Nottingham Forest have asked me about it and I recommended they get one themselves, and I’ve even suggested it to a few players from other clubs!”
Artificial grass is proving popular in the sporting world, as the FA has confirmed that 3G artificial pitches will be allowed from the 2014-15 FA Cup season onwards, boosting the ability of being able to play football all year round and helping to take the headache out of maintaining a playing surface through the football season.
